GoldenEye

Item Description

Directed by Martin Campbell, GOLDENEYE makes the transition to a more modern image for the James Bond series. Bond's out-of-date womanizing is presented with a feminist challenge from the newly cast Judi Dench as an impenetrable M, and Samantha Bond as a wiser and more forthright Moneypenny. The action sequences, replete with helicopter hijinks and copious explosions, are complex and stylish, making the film a polished sensation. This installment in the series introduces actor Pierce Brosnan in the role of suave, debonair, irresistible 007. Despite the end of the Cold War, James Bond still finds himself pitted against nefarious Russians who want to rule the world. This time around, his enemies are a gang of mobsters and former military men who have gained access to the Goldeneye, which can cut off electrical currents in London. Alec Trevelyan (Sean Bean) is the leader, with General Ourumov (Gottfried John) an additional threat. Sizzling Bond babe Xenia Onatopp (Famke Janssen) is the sleek robber who, with Ourumov, successfully steals the Goldeneye, which the villains plan to use in their quest to control financial markets around the globe. However, this grizzly group of scoundrels is no match for Bond, who constantly outwits their attempts to assassinate him. Bond rescues the tough and lovely Natalya Simonova (Izabella Scorupco), who was caught in Trevalyan's deadly web, and she eventually helps Bond turn the tables on his foes as he uses his quick instincts, innovative weapons, and cool gadgetry to save the day.

3 stars Fun but overrated 2010-07-04

Goldeneye is a fun bond film and a good starter for Pirce Brosnan. It was ashame that Dalton left as he is IMO the third best bond followed by Daniel Crig and Sean. But Pirce is a good replacement.

The Good:
The relationship between Bond (Brosnan) and Trevelyan (Sean Bean) was well written.
The action was good.
The relationship between Bond and the russian girl (name escapes me, not Onatopp) was well done.
Judie Dench makes a strong presence as M and is the best M IMO.
The action was pretty good

The Bad:
Xenia Onatopp is one of the worst bond girls ever (I have a hard time taking serious a woman who is that driven for pleasure and that blunt about it. It would have been better if she was more subtle about it)
The opening scene is overrated and Lame (the whole sky diving into a plane was dumb and the fight when Bond thinks he has killed Trevelyn was dissapointing. The opening for Licence to Kill was ten times better as well as a much better film)
The CGI staellites were really bad (The minuture staellites in You only live twice, Moonraker and Diamonds are forever are much more realistic looking and do not look like CGI cartoons)

Not as good as The Living Daylights or Liecence to Kill but a good movie none the less.

As I have been asked to review Golden Eye, I will say that it is the first movie I ever went to see in the theater multiple times. The opening scenes were spectacular! The characterizations and the actors, even their teeth, were interesting. I have seen this movie over 270 times since it came out. I had 3 copies and my daughter had 1 and all disappeared, so I purchased the special edition. We spent 3 hours watching the special features. Didn't even watch the movie that day. We did later. Still riviting! You can consider me a fan. I have all the Bond movies and at least some of the history videos. Golden Eye and especially the special edition, if you can find it, well worth the price.

2 stars worst Brosnan Bond film ever! 2010-04-06

Let me start by saying that I am a big fan of the Pierce Brosnan 007 movies. However, this was the worst 007 movie of his I've ever seen! The acting is not very good. The main villian, played by Famke Janssen, isn't a good villian. Although beautiful, she really doesn't do a good job of acting. The movie is also cut poorly. I lost the point of the story after the first hour! The effects and chase scenes are great though.

In conclusion,I'd only advise watching it if it's on TV. It's not worth buying.
